About the Event
What happens when we tell the story of Summit Avenue not from the mansions at the top of the hill, but from the paths people used to move between them and the neighborhoods below?
Join Rethos on September 14 at Bad Weather Brewing for the next installment of Drinking in History, as we explore the Walnut Street Steps—one of Saint Paul’s less celebrated, but deeply revealing, historic places. Connecting Summit Avenue and Irvine Park with the bluff and city below, the Walnut Street Steps have been part of the everyday movement of people through this landscape for generations. Their story opens the door to bigger questions: Who traveled between these neighborhoods? Who worked in the homes on the hill? And what can the routes, relationships, labor, and everyday experiences surrounding our landmark buildings tell us about the history of a city?
Rethos Executive Director Heidi Swank will be joined…
