Exciting news! Hennepin County is expanding its building reuse grant fund! While originally only designed for residential deconstruction projects, Hennepin County’s deconstruction grant program will now accept grant applications for commercial building deconstruction projects, structural moves that involve physically relocating buildings, and for projects that incorporate used building materials into project designs.

The following funding is available for each type of project:

  • Residential deconstruction grants – Up to $5,000 available per project for residential properties built before 1970. Grant supports the deconstruction of the home’s building materials for reuse.

  • Commercial deconstruction grants – Up to $10,000 available per project for commercial properties, including multi-family apartment buildings over 4 units. Grant supports the deconstruction of the building’s materials for reuse.

  • Structural move grants – Up to $15,000 available per project for the physical relocation of a building to avoid demolition.

  • Used building material installation grants – Up to $5,000 available per project that incorporates used building materials into a new or existing project.

Applicants must be a property owner or developer in Hennepin County. Projects must meet the reuse and disposal criteria. Publicly owned properties are not eligible for funding.
